Our 2023 Colonel Charles Jones Memorial Golf Tournament was a great success!!

With the help of former NFL great, Mark "Super" Duper, and football legends, Mark Clayton and Nat Moore, Project 1-Avoyelles was able to hold an exciting fundraising golf tournament on June 25, 2022.  We had a nice turnout of both golfers and guests, many traveling from out of state.

Arranged by 1-AVP and hosted by Dr. Isiah Warner (Bunkie native and 1-AVP Board of Directors members), trip was funded by the Avoyelles Parish School System. High school students traveled via bus to the LSU BR Campus where they got to spend a day of touring campus, visiting with various faculty, staff, and graduate students in the Chemistry Department.  Students were provided opportunities to meet with representatives from campus Financial Aid and Recruiting departments.

Arranged by 1-AVP and hosted by Bethune Center in Marksville (2018) and Bunkie Magnet High School (2019). Led by Donald Prier II and his daughters (Lillian Prier & Sydney Prier), camp focused on middle school-aged children.  Funding was from a variety of local businesses and individuals including the Rapides Foundation, Detel Corporation, Bunkie Rotary Club, Gibco Printing, Salem Baptist Church, University of Kentucky and many who made individual financial and time donations. Total students impacted was 60.

1-AVP managed setting criteria, selection process and arranging award.  Money ($6000) provided from a matching grant and presented on behalf of Mr. Arvell Sullivan.  One student from Avoyelles HS, Bunkie HS and Marksville HS each received $2000.

Organized 3 Facebook “Villages” (Almost 1200 members) to support schools.  Villages are centered around 3 public high schools: Marksville HS (Project 1-Avoyelles 1-Marksville); Avoyelles HS (1-Avoyelles High School); Bunkie HS (1-Avoyelles 1-Bunkie).
